Brockwell Lido Users
About BLU
Who and what is BLU?
BLU is for everyone who uses the Lido---whether for yoga, tai chi, meditation, swimming, sunbathing or just relaxing with friends.
BLU was formed in summer 2001 by users of the Lido because the survival of the pool was in question. We now have over 1000 members.
For two years BLU has campaigned to save the Lido. Now the purpose of BLU is to give Lido users a strong and coherent voice in shaping the future of the Lido.
We aim to:
- Keep Brockwell Lido as an open-air facility for the community
- Ensure user involvement in evaluating quality of service and provision at the Lido
- Ensure that users have a voice in planning the future of the Lido
- Facilitate good communication between Lido management and users
What have we done?
- Surveyed Lido users (873 questionnaires completed)
- Established a web site (here)
- Researched other Lidos and summarised findings
- Sent news about the Lido to members (see here)
- Linked with other community groups
- Held 6 meetings for members to get their views on plans for the Lido
- Organised a reception for councillors at the Lido in summer 2002
- Organised a petition to councillors when the Lido was threatened with closure in summer 2002
- Represented users on Lambeth Steering Group which has met regularly for 2 years to explore options for the Lido and make recommendations to councillors
- Circulated summaries of Lido proposals to all members and organised a consultation meeting
- Maintained close contact with Lambeth and Fusion during the long negotiations about the Lido lease to make users views clear.
