What the Lido offers

Brockwell Lido was built by the London County Council in 1937 for all the community. It is one of the few community resources that has never dated and still represents a sanctuary right in the heart of the city. It still has a magic that no indoor or covered pool could ever offer.

The Lido is operated by Fusion. See the Fusion Lido website or call Fusion on 020 7274 3088 for further details of activities.

Where is the Lido?
Brockwell Lido is In Herne Hill on Dulwich Road, London, Se24 0PA. See this map.

The Pool
So where else do you go on a hot sunny afternoon but to sit by that pool? For some kids the Lido is their holiday - it's Brixton's Beach. For the not so young it's a place of companionship and exercise?

A very important characteristic of Lambeth's Lido is the thriving all-year round activities that take place in the rooms surrounding the pool.

Yoga
It has become an important centre for Astanga Vinyassa and other forms of Yoga. There are some 20 classes each week run by six independent teachers. In excess of 300 yoga pupils attend each week.

Tai Chi and Meditation
Yoga rooms are also used for meditation and tai chi classes, benefitting from the peaceful surroundings of the park.

Whippersnappers
Whippersnappers offers under 5's music workshops for 250 children plus their carers (ie 500 people!) each week. Having a secure base at the Lido enables Whippersnappers to do extensive outreach work with Lambeth schools, nurseries, one o'clock clubs and community groups. It runs workshops for special groups-teenage mums, English second language, autistic children, children with disabilities and ran a playscheme at the Lido funded by charities in 2000. It has also given numerous shows for school children, including a Black History show, Christmas Shows and Pickney Beat Days held at the Lido with 125 children performing to an audience of 2000.

Educational Projects
31 primary schools, 12 secondary schools and 14 summer projects have used the Lido regularly over the years at discounted rates: £1 for each child or young person and no charge for staff. For seven years the Lido has offered work experience to students from a local school and for undergraduate students from the Shell Technology and Enterprise Programme.

These activities thrive because of the location near a pool and a park. They are part of the community ambiance that is valued so highly by users.
